"It's great once you're in!"
If I had a pound - or should that be a euro, as we are in Euroland? - for every time I have heard this over the holiday so far, I would be a rich woman indeed.
Our hotel boasts two
beautiful swimming pools. One is for everyone, while the indoor pool is for adults only. Both are very, very cold. As in freezing. Many is the whimpering woman I have witnessed cowering on the steps leading into the icy depths. Not me, I am made of sterner
stuff and, as far as I am concerned, a holiday is not a holiday if I haven't had at least one Daily Swim.
Those of us brave enough, or silly enough, to venture in are full of encouragement. Hence: "It's great once you're in!" Some people
even believe us...
Down in Paphos Harbour, it is the opposite of freezing. It is like the Great British Bake-off, as we Brits stroll along in the mid-day sun, like rosy lobsters ready for the pot. The resident pelican is attracting the
photographers. We remember him from our last visit when he was called Steven. Our son is called Steven, so we could hardly forget. Steven is being very naughty, pulling table cloths from all the tables in the restaurants. This is the pelican I am talking about,
in case you were wondering...
Finally the Naughty One is helped over the harbour wall. He opens his enormous beak wide and you can almost hear him call:
"it's great once you're in!"
