So this is the last of the Holiday Bloglets from sunny Cyprus. Tomorrow afternoon we will board our plane and head back to chilly England. I am shivering at the very thought of it....
I have just finished reading Death in Cyprus by M M Kaye. I hope you admire my choice of holiday reading material. It's a murder mystery, set in what the author calls "the Enchanted Island." It was
written long before Cyprus became a divided island and is mainly set in the north. Kyrenia, Bellapais, Hilarion. The very names are evocative of sunshine, olive trees, castles and monasteries. If I had read the book earlier in the holiday I would have been
tempted to make the trip to the north of the island, despite the adverse reports from fellow guests about the length of the day which put us off from booking.
today's final cribbage session we ended up evens again. Mr B is overall victor by 17 to 10 but at least I made it into double figures. I was a good loser. There was not another Death in Cyprus, despite the smug look on his face. We will miss those late afternoon
card games on the balcony with the sunset streaking the sky in red and orange and gold and a single star winking at us.
There is, of course, no place like home
but oh, how we have enjoyed our fortnight here.
M M Kaye was right. This is, indeed, an enchanted island...
