I thought it was time I updated you all on my progress with the weekly litter-pick. I am sure you are all agog.
I really do think my street is cleaner than it
used to be. Regular readers will remember that in my first week I gathered 8 lbs of rubbish; the following week it was just over 6 lbs; today at weigh-in time it was a couple of ounces over 4lbs. It's hard to imagine this has
anything at all to do with me, but it is heartening all the same.
In order to add a little interest for my readers (you can see you are constantly in my thoughts) I decided to have a bit of
a competition between the odd-numbered side of the road and the even-numbered side. I am on the odd side. Strange that....
Anyway, it turned out today that the odd-numbered side had slightly
more litter than the even-numbered side. This might, however, have something to do with the fact that it started raining half way along the even side so I may have skipped the odd battered drinks can or empty crisp packet in my haste to
get home before I got too wet.
Litter-picking certainly gives you a glimpse of the triumphs and misfortunes of life. I picked up half a discarded "L" plate, for example, and imagined the delight
with which someone must have torn it in two in the sweet flush of success. On the downside, someone spent a fortune on lottery scratch cards, only to rip them up in a fury of disappointment and dump them on the pavement. All human life
is here on the verges in Palatine Road.
Mushrooms are springing up in all the verges. You are probably wondering why I didn't pick them so as to rustle up a tasty meal for Mr B. But
I'm never too sure on the difference between mushrooms and toadstools - obviously as a former Brownie and Brownie Guider I know all about the bright red ones with white spots but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. I think it is fair to say that
as a forager I am a waste of space.
By the way, over the last 24 hours no fewer than 86 people read the Daily Blog, according to the handy counter on my website. We are up to nearly 1600 hits
now on the Blog alone. If you enjoy reading my random musings, please share on your own Facebook page or tell your friends.
On the other hand, of course, you may think it's a load
of rubbish - which today it clearly is.....
