Sunday 22nd July

So I have been getting ready for guests. You know how it is. Beds - made, house - cleaned, salad - tossed, eggs - hard boiled and penguin - dressed!

Penguin? You mean to say that dressing up a penguin isn't part of your normal preparations when guests come to stay? Let me hand over to one of my guest writers for today...

Hi this is Katie speaking... well typing.... Ever since I started coming to stay with Nanna when I was four, Nanna has dressed up the penguin and put him outside the front door. It's tradition! And when my sister, Eleanor started coming she joined in too! Now I'm 15 and when I turned up I was expecting the penguin! Walking to the front door I noticed the penguin had a bit of a theme going on....The Union Jack. Yes Nanna had made him a very patriotic penguin! Maybe I'm a little old now but as it is tradition, I don't really have the heart to tell her! Now I'll stop hogging the laptop and pass it over to the second guest typer of the day!

Hi Everybody, Eleanor here.

Well today I have to say was a very fun (and hot) day! We went to the bowls fun day to try get the highest score (like Jack did last year). I did ok and got an overall score of 395. Katie on the other hand got a whopping score of 460 which put her in the lead and eventually she won the whole day! For her prize she took home a bottle of whiskey (Grandad is having it so don't worry). After the bowls we went to the beach and threw pebbles in the sea. Got a lovely dinner of roast lamb tonight. Really looking forward to it!

Mr B is a very happy person today (not just on account of the whiskey) - and so, for reasons doubtless apparent, am I!

I too went to school in Kent where my Aunt worked as a dinner-lady. I got seconds sometimes thirds of my favourite pud, the said Gipsy Tart. My son’s a dentist!

Also, Anne always walked the long way home after Rangers so that I didn't have to walk alone down that lane in the dark. I've never forgotten that kindness...

As one of the Brownies who helped to plant that tree I vividly remember you telling us that you asked a tree expert what kind of tree he recommended!
