Jaqui's Daily Blog

Saturday 28th July

So unfortunately we didn't win the lottery (didn't think we would anyway). However I am feeling lucky today because it's my birthday (this is Eleanor speaking by the way). I've had the most amazing birthday ever! I woke up at about 7:30am (first awake of course) and Nanni was the last up, which is nothing unusual, waking up at 8:20!

I've kindly been given lots of presents including a nice dressing gown and pyjamas from Nanni and Grandad, a sylvanian caravan from Mummy and Daddy and a giraffe beanie boo from Uncle Steven which is shown on the picture to the left! Tonight we are having a gorgeous dinner of steak pie and chips which was my choice! Now I'll pass you on to Katie...

I think everyone should know by now but it was the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony last night! So after some Dominoes pizza, we all headed to the TV to watch it from 9 till 1. I can't believe I sat there for 4 hours without falling asleep once! (I'm the only one in our house who can actually say that!) Yes I sat through every country walking around the stadium for over an hour... Most of the countries that came through I had no idea even existed. But still it was interesting listening to Nanna giving a running commentary on how "exciting" or "boring" the teams' outfits were!

I have to say, it was all worth it just to see those copper petals being lifted up to make the Olympic cauldron (Nanna had a bit of a shock when she found out they weren't "kettles" as she had been calling them, they were in fact PETALS!)

Back to me now - and I still can't believe they were copper petals.  I was sure they were copper kettles. We have just taken a family vote on this.  Two of us thought they were kettles, two of us thought they were petals, one of us abstained and Eleanor was asleep on the floor all through this part of the Opening Ceremony so pleaded "unable to vote."

It's my last day with the girls after a whole week together on our "two centre holiday" - it will be just Mr B and me again tomorrow.  Won't I miss them!  And so, I am sure, will regular readers of the Daily Blog!

Mmm, was it because there were '24 men kicking a ball' that it didn't end entirely satisfactorily???

Jaqui I think your grandchildren are very lucky. You have spurred me on to write a letter to Amelia who like Hazel is away from home for the first time. 💕
