And for today's shopping trip....

So today we hit IKEA. Or, possibly, IKEA hit us...

The Middle of the Darling Daughters and I had already had a pretty successful shop - TK Max, Hobbycraft, Mamas and Papas - even before we entered its portals. So, obviously, as you do, we made straight for the restaurant and some serious chat, in order to re-charge our batteries ready for the challenges ahead.

The good thing about the IKEA restaurant is that you are allowed as many refills of your coffee mug as you like. The down-side is that the mugs are so very, very small that an inveterate coffee drinker (such as I) has to make numerous trips to the coffee station in order to reach Satisfaction Point. Which would be so far, so irritating, but not an insurmountable problem - were it not for the fact that the sachets of decaffeinated coffee are hidden away so that even the most Experienced Coffee Detective will have difficulty tracking them down.

Anyway eventually we were off, fed and watered and ready to follow the red arrows on the floor leading us around the delights in store. And here's the thing about IKEA - it's seductive. We found ourselves looking around a basic studio flat layout and marvelling what fun it would be, having a bed tucked in behind a curtain to separate it from the kitchen-cum-dining-room-cum-study. After all, look at the storage! The cushions! The mirrors and the scented candles! You have to admit it, IKEA lets everyone see the possibilities.

For the Middle of the Darling Daughters, with just a few weeks to go till her longed-for baby boy arrives, the endless exciting possibilities stretching ahead are encompassed in the two wooden toy boxes she bought today - blank canvasses on which she will paint a colourful and fun-filled future for her Little Champ.

Lucky, lucky, little lad!

This wonderful blog has summed up the true meaning of A Christmas Day. Once the dread of a restricted day had sunk in, other ways were invented. Thank you
