News - and Views!

Friday 29th June

Oh dear, how depressing the news is today, full of the Barclays debacle and the resulting Blame Game.  Whatever happened to putting your hand up and saying: "Sorry, my fault, and this is what I'm going to do to put things right."

David Beckham is probably feeling depressed too - but (footie pundit that I am - not!) I think Stuart Pearce made the right decision in not picking him for our Team GB.  And I reckon our David would really only want to be picked on merit and not for sentimental reasons.

My favourite news story of the day concerns John Mc Bride, who carried the Olympic torch through Durham running in his bare feet.  John supports a charity which raises money to buy shoes for the street children of Korogocho in Nairobi, Kenya so, when relay organisers LOCOG tried to stop him running barefoot, he faced up to them and won.  Not only that, but he then took his torch out to Nairobi and gave it to the children.

It's a story to restore our faith in human nature....

Mmm, was it because there were '24 men kicking a ball' that it didn't end entirely satisfactorily???

Jaqui I think your grandchildren are very lucky. You have spurred me on to write a letter to Amelia who like Hazel is away from home for the first time. 💕
