World Cup Heroes 2018

Well so far the World Cup in Russia has been spectacularly low on Heroes. (I am not counting HK for the moment, on the grounds that he might be on his way to achieving Super Hero status.) I was all set to give a mention to Jerome Boateng for having 650 pairs of boots, including a golden pair - but then he was sent off with a red card and so spoiled his chances. He must be gutted not to make it onto my Heroes Board...

So, we are a few days into the 2018 World Cup and so far I haven’t identified anyone worthy of entry on my new on-line Heroes Board.

Yes, I know Cristiano Ronaldo (or Chris, as I like to call him) scored an amazing hat-trick - but then that’s only what you expect of him, isn’t It? The Heroes Board is for the unexpected, the unsung, the totally way-out. It may be about exceptional play - but it might be about being prepared to take to the pitch in perfectly ridiculous kit, or sporting a hair style Like None Other. It may also, to be fair, be about true sporting behaviour.

We are in World Cup Lockdown in our house, Mr B is glued to every match. Who will be the first to be entered on the 2018 World Cup Heroes Board? Please feel free to put forward your own suggestions because I think I’m going to need some help - just at the moment, everyone seems just too, well, ordinary.

Let’s hear it for some real heroics!
