I do like a day which ends up better than it began. Even if we are only talking about the weather.
“It’s really,
really wet!” I told Mr B as I pulled the living room curtains this morning. Mr B didn’t sound too bothered, as befits one who won’t need to brave the elements. Outside on the patio a slightly bedraggled robin hopped right up to the door,
trying his hardest to inject a note of colour into a grey day. Silently, I saluted him - but he hopped off, apparently unimpressed by my fancifulness. Mr B and Master Robin have a lot in common.
I took the car to church. No, please don’t start, I didn’t expect my Grand Old Lady to accompany me into my favoured pew, one from the back on the right hand side; I parked her outside. Yes, in the wet but, really,
what else could I do? In I went, steaming a little as my wet coat met the warm indoors. I was a bit late, having had to deal with a few last minute requirements from Mr B before I left, so I found myself all tangled up with the choir, gathering at the back
of the church ready to make their solemn - but tuneful - progress up the aisle. I was relieved to finally take my seat among my friends who all smiled a greeting and generously ignored my Haystack Hair and the fact that I somehow managed to spill the contents
of my water bottle all over the floor as I took my seat. I think the choir was probably pleased to see me go, too.
Back home, it was still raining so there
was no point in gardening. I am not grumbling about this because it meant I would not need to water the pots later in the day. You see what I mean about days getting better? Instead I could spend my time on one of my many Indoor Projects, all with a
strict deadline to be met. Mr B, however, wanted me to watch Celebrity Apprentice USA which has taken on a whole new dimension since The Donald became President of the USA and the most important person in the Free World. Obviously his elevation to POTUS was
well after this series of the Apprentice was filmed but it is fascinating to watch the way The Donald fires contestants on the TV series, compared with the way he doles out similar treatment to his White House staff. Possibly he is finding it difficult to
differentiate real life from reality TV? Just saying...
I dragged a box of old photographs from the back of my wardrobe and carried it downstairs, all the better
to find a few appropriate pictures of me as a child for the purposes of The Project. I can’t resist sending copies of a few to my Foursome - including one which shows the Dutch girl bedside lamp my brother bought me years and years ago which I wrote
about in an earlier blog. It’s a bit blurry but then so are most of my memories.
Hey, the sun has come out! The robin is back outside, looking so much chirpier
than before. “Oh, ye of little faith!” he trills, as he basks in the unexpected sunshine.
Dinner turns out well. Mr B is in good form. What’s
more, the last episode of The Bodyguard is on TV tonight.
Oh, I do like a day which ends up better than it began!
